Turned parts from brass MS-58.
In modern manufacturing, CuZn39Pb3 (CW614N) is the undisputed standard for producing precision turned parts.
Its greatest advantage lies in its excellent machinability, made possible by a lead content of around 3%. The lead is not dissolved in the microstructure but acts as a chip breaker, so that machining on machining centres and automatic lathes produces short, crumbly chips. This prevents the formation of dangerous flowing chips that could wrap around the tool and interrupt the automated process. Another decisive factor for turned parts is cost-efficiency: the lead particles act as an internal lubricant that massively reduces friction and therefore the thermal load on the cutting edge. This leads to a significantly longer tool life while allowing extremely high cutting speeds. For series production, that means shorter cycle times and high process stability.
Its fields of application are extremely varied. Thanks to its good mechanical strength and outstanding surface quality, the material is the preferred choice for electrical contacts, connectors and fittings, as well as for components in mechanical engineering and the automotive industry. It is also ideal for decorative purposes, since the turned parts can easily be electroplated (e.g. chrome- or nickel-plated). Despite the trend towards lead-free alloys, CuZn39Pb3 remains the “workhorse” of turning, thanks to its unbeaten machining properties.
Lead-free and low-lead: the most advanced way to machine brass.
GROHE Technology is one of the pioneers in machining these extremely corrosion-resistant alloys, which are therefore suited to contact with drinking water. Committed to the future.
One of our guiding principles relates not only to our corporate culture but also to the materials we process. That is why, more than a decade ago, we invested in a swarf-processing system used exclusively for lead-free materials.
One of the characteristic aspects of lead-free brass is a lead concentration of less than 0.1%, balanced by the presence of silicon and phosphorus, which reduces susceptibility to dezincification and stress corrosion. Ecobrass, however, requires special know-how to process it correctly. Powerful machines alone are not enough to achieve the desired result. And that is exactly where we come in.

Copper. The highest demands on electrical and thermal conductivity.
One of our guiding principles relates not only to our corporate culture but also to the materials we process.
Cu-ETP copper is an oxygen-containing copper with very high electrical and thermal conductivity. It has excellent forming properties. Because of its oxygen content, its soldering and welding properties are limited.
Machining copper, however, requires special know-how to do it correctly. Powerful machines alone are not enough to achieve the desired result. And that is exactly where we come in.

Stainless steel. The ultimate protection against environmental influences.
This top layer on the steel — the very thing that defines stainless steel — is only a few thousandths of a millimetre thin and protects the material from environmental influences. Machining this non-corroding material requires experience and special know-how.

Aluminium. The designers' material.
Thanks to their high strength and low density, wrought aluminium alloys are used as materials for transport containers and for structural parts in vehicle, aircraft and shipbuilding. This, too, is a material that demands a delicate touch when producing high-precision parts.
